Participate 4- Digital Safety and Security

What is the most important step we can take in terms of ensuring our digital safety?

Educating students and staff on proper digital usages, promoting safe sites and navigating with caution is an important step to take in ensuring digital safety.

Giving examples of proper digital usage is necessary to ensure students are not victim of fraud.  Students should be educated of the warning signs of a possible virus.  Student should be aware of information that is safe and unsafe to share on websites.  Promoting safe sites is necessary for the safety of the users.  Students should be encouraged to avoid the dark web.  Students should also be educated about current sites that are dangerous to the user.  Although some sites may seem trendy or tempting for students to explore they should be warned of the consequences of using such sites.

What strategies can we take to help our students consistently keep digital safety in the forefront of their minds?

Students need to be aware of malware that is safe to install on their computer.  For example, AVG Free is an excellent malware protection for computers.  Students should be encourage to run virus protection scans weekly to combat against viruses.  Also CC Cleaner is a free malware protection that is great for cleaning the cache files.  Educators must encourage students to run virus protection scans to increase computer speed.   Students should be encourage not to visit sites that they are not familiar with and avoid downloading from such sites.  When  purchasing items students should make sure there is a safety logo showing that the site is being monitored and has the proper software to safeguard purchases.
